1982

It all started in 1982 when the Cardboard House Bakery opened on Hornby Island. After years of operating in a world of summer-oriented businesses, the bakery was in need of something that could help them stay afloat in the winter months. Enter Hornby Island Pâté.

2004

Pâté had always been part of the bakery’s selection of fresh goods, and with its longer shelf life, it made for the perfect winter product. In 2004, the makers of Hornby Island Pâté decided to expand their reach and take their product to Thrifty’s Food. Hornby Island Pâté was met with enthusiasm and support from the local food store, and it quickly became a much-loved product across Vancouver Island.

Today

From its humble beginnings as a simple product with basic packaging, this small local business has grown to become available in over 60 stores spanning 20 cities.

Hornby Island Pâté – Herb

We created this delicious vegan pate by blending sunflower seeds, potatoes, brown rice flour, sunflower oil, onion, organic lemon juice, dijon mustard, basil, sea salt, oregano, dill, and black pepper. Nutritional yeast gives this páté a nice umami flavour that blends nicely with the herbs in our signature style!

Pair Herb Hornby Island Pâté with some fresh baguette or seed crackers alongside pickled vegetables to please your guests at your next gathering.

Hornby Island Pâté – Red Pepper & Garlic

This one is for all the garlic lovers out there! We took our classic pâté base and infused it with the zesty flavours of fresh red pepper and garlic to create a unique spread that will always have you wanting more.

Spread Red Pepper & Garlic Hornby Island Pâté on a kaiser bun with your choice of toppings and enjoy a delicious alternative to meat-based sandwiches.
